The time has come for our very first dining table from IKEA to be retired. It's served us well but it's time for a change.

For several months this table has been sitting in our garage (along with several other projects). I found it on Craigslist months ago and was smitten. It had been sitting in the previous owner's garage for several years and it was obvious. The wood was drier than a bone, the whole table was cracked and warped with heat damage, it was in bad shape. I had a vision.

I first filled in the cracks with wood filler.

Being with child my husband took over from here while I acted as project foreman.
I think I irritated the heck outta him by bossing directions.
Next, he sanded the whole table table down.

On to staining. He painted the stain on and let it sit for about 5 minutes then wiped it off with a rag.

After the stain dried for about 6 hours he applied Polyurathane with a brush. Being as this is going to get a lot of abuse as a dinner table it will need several coats...6-7 to be exact.

Pictures to come when completed.

Hi Michelle!
First off, just want to congratulate you on your pregnancy!
Second, just wondering where you got your striped pillows that sit on your couches. I think I need those for my living room :)

I can't wait to see it! It's SUCH a gorgeous table.

And I can totally relate to the bossing husband around on projects that I can't do while pregnant. LOL.
