Hi Folks, I'm back from vacation. I have a lot to share about our wonderful family trip and about some fabulous finds I brought back with me (thanks to Southwest Air...did you know they are one of the few airlines that don't charge to check bags? In D.C. I bought a box just so I could bring back some stuff).
Problem is, I got a new camera for my birthday (Canon Rebel) and apparently all the pictures I took are way too big to upload to Blogger. If anyone knows how I can shrink the picture file so they'll upload, I'm all ears.
While I'm awaiting your instruction, here's a little goodie (with my old camera).
A couple of months ago while in Salt Lake City I found this vintage, audio/visual cart on Craigslist. I thought I might make a great little nightstand for my boys room.

Vintage locker basket makes a great place to stash books. I found this one at a local antique store in town but I saw that Urban Outfitters sells a reproduction.
This lamp came from an antique store in Lexington, Virginia.

Awesome nightstand! Looks great in the room.
I have to resize my photos in Elements. But if your Rebel came with software you can probably use that. There should be and image resize tab in there somewhere.

I just use Office Picture Manager or Paint to resize my photos.
hi michelle! i have a canon rebel as well, and i just upload a couple pictures at a time and have no problem. so rather than filling every photo option when you add them, try adding just 2, then go back and do the rest the same way. it really doesn't take too much longer. :)
Love your finds--especially that locker basket!
When I upload my pics I put them in photobucket first and then copy and paste the code into my blog. Works like a charm on bigger files. : )

Pictures...do you mean when you look at the picture it is huge? You should be able to resize it in "Paint"...if you mean the file size is too large, I'm not sure what you can do.

Love the AV cart as nightstand. Clever. And that locker basket is awesome -- need to check out OU for one.
I use windows live writer (a free blog writer program) and it has no problem with my jpeg files. (they are sometimes 6 meg or more) Check out the program, you can round the corners on your pics arrange them in a grid... make your photos look like poloroids...etc. -and it's about as user friendly as it comes... you just hit publish, and it sends it to your blogger and publishes the post. Let me know if you have any questions.

If you have iPhoto, you can go to file-export and then you can change the size of the photo in the box that comes up.
That cart is awesome!
I have no idea how to fix your photo dilemma, but it sounds like everyone else has you covered.
You could also use picnik to resize your photos.

To easily resize pics and quick editing there is a fabulous site called www.picnik.com. It's free. When you sVe the pics to your computer they automatically resize and you can pick the size.

Now that you have a new DSLR I would suggest purchasing Photoshop Elements. I think you can find it at Costco for under $100. But it is so much fun to use and the possibilities are endless. If you already have it, here is how you resize for the web:
>Image
>Image Size
-Change the resolution to 72 pixels/inch
>the drop down menu at the bottom of the pop-up box. In the drop down menu there should be an option for "Bicubic Sharper (best for reduction)". Click that option.
>File
>Save for web & devices
In the "save for web" dialogue box choose HIGH from the options listed
>OK
When the dialogue box pops up for you to create a file name type:
yourfile'sname_web
>save
By reducing the resolution of your file it will upload faster, use less file space on your Blogger account, and no one can reprint them because the resolution will be too low (photo will be all pixilated). Just remember, never click on Save. This will permanently alter the resolution on your original photo.

Yvette's suggestion is probably the best one for reducing file size correctly and yes you can get so much more out of your images if you have Photoshop or the basic version Photoshop Elements. I am a graphic designer for a living so I use various imaging software. Good luck and you are really going to enjoy your camera and post processing, it's fun!
I absolutely love that cart as a nightstand. You have accessorized it perfectly and I could see this is so many different settings! I'm going to have to find one for myself somewhere... :)

I resize my photos in Paint. You just open them in Paint and click on Image then Resize/Skew and type in a smaller number the same for vertical and horizontal. Save it and it'll be a smaller file. Good luck, can't wait to see the pictures!
What a fun night stand! I resize and edit all my pics through Adobe Photoshop.

I'm a huge fan of the PhotoShop image processor - at this point it looks like you have many ways of going about shrinking the file size. Good luck!
I love the night stand! As for the photos you can use Paint.
I just use Paint...click on the Image tab, resize/skew, then on Horizontal & Vertical change the number. I have a Nikon D300 and have to resize it to 30 & 30 or sometimes 40 & 40, my images are massive! The lower the number the smaller the picture will shrink. But make sure it's the same number in both of the boxes so it's balanced. Love your blog btw!

I got a Canon Rebel for my birthday a couple of months ago and I love it. You could try playing with the picture quality option on the camera. As long as you are not intending to blow up and print out the photo, a shot taken with the S setting should be just fine for your blog (and will save tons of space on your hard drive!)

I have a Canon Rebel as well, and am able to upload to Blogger. I'm only able to do one photo at a time (which is a huge pain in the rear) but it can be done. I just upload to my computer using Windows, and then to Blogger from my desktop. Good luck!

Your camera is set to large format. This gets you photos that can be blown up for enlargements.
If you don't do a lot of that, you can internally reset the default size the camera takes.
It's under the "menu" button on the back.
The whole cart and all is to die for cute. I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a cute cart. I even live in SL. Thanks for stealing it. Just kidding. :)
