"Swap till you drop."

While getting high off of oil fumes at Jiffy Lube the other day I was flipping through the January 2010 issue of Better Homes and Gardens and came accross this. (Yes, I tore these two pages out but the guy at the counter didn't seem to care).

It's called a Swap Party I think it's such a great idea. I can't tell you how many Tupperware-style parties I've been to where I feel obligated to purchase something to benefit the hostess who is trying to earn so many dollars of free product (o.k. guilty. I've been a hostess too).

At a Swap Party the concept is everyone brings a few "nice" items they don't use anymore to swap for other people's things that they don't use either. You spend no money and still leave with something(s) cool.

I'll take that green lamp, the gorgeous cake stand and the Anthropologie bowls please.

Frog giveaway.

That's right, I'm at it again with another room re-do. My guest room is getting a face lift on a budget (wouldn't have it any other way). This weekend I painted the room using my favorite tape, Frog tape. If you haven't ever used this tape you simply must. It will give you crisp lines and no bleeding! Once you try it you'll never go back...HONESTLY!

Darn you Home Depot for discontinuing it (at mine at least). It does cost a little more than blue tape. However, the time Frog tape will save you by not having to go back and do touch up won't even make you think twice.

The good folks at Frog Tape saw how well my stripes turned out on my hallway project so they sent me some t-shirts and several rolls of tape!
I had so much fun with the last giveaway that I thought I'd share the love and part with a very fashionable t-shirt and a couple rolls of tape. Leave a comment by midnight, Monday, March 8th to be entered.

Dinner time.

My man has a handful of recipes that he's good at. However, he'll only cook if it's absolutely necessary or if I promise....never mind. I was busy chauffeuring last evening so he made homemade pizza. After the "amen" we all dug in and... "hmm, this has a tang to it. Almost like it's sweet...vanilla maybe?" He says, "Oh yeah, I couldn't find the flour so I used protein powder." Oh boy. Bless his heart for trying.
Unrelated, I've been known to slice my fingers while in the kitchen but I swear I am injury free this time. What on earth happen to this pineapple?

Does this hallway look familiar?

I was browsing Design Sponge this morning and came across this striped hallway. "Well that looks strangely familiar," I thought to myself. Same gray stripes, same width, same area of the house as a little hallway project I did a while back? Great minds must think alike I suppose. How about that red DIY chandelier? FABULOUS!

5 year old carpool conversation...

Matani (my son): Look at all the Valentine's I got!
Ryder: I got more.
Matani: Na-uh.
Ryder: Ya-huh.
Matani: NA-UH!
Ryder: YA-HUH!
Matani: What? A Tinkerbell Valentine?
Ryder: I'm going to give mine to my sister.
Matani: I'm going to give mine to my girlfriend...once I get one.

Been to Anthro lately?

Thanks to my fantastic gal Michelle for sharing this email with me!

According to Anthropologie, "Fifty billion plastic bottles were consumed in the U.S. alone last year - 38 billion of which ended up in landfills. Science tells us that these bottles will not biodegrade until the next millennium."

Well that just stinks!

So what does Anthro do? Repurpose them to make some spectactular chandeliers!
Check it...

Here is my version of my own Saareinen round table.
Pretty weak attempt.
OK, It's not really the same at all except for the marble top.
Although I do love this table that I found at a antique store a while back, it's kind of small for a breakfast table. You can't tell from the picture but the marble is really yellow-y and has an even more yellow stain in the middle. It looks off with all the stark white shades in this little room.
Ah well, a tight budget can't be choosey...or can it?

A few months ago I was in Bookman's. Ever heard of it? It's a place where you can sell, trade and buy books, music, magazines, games. In short, a second hand bookstore (run by hippies and skaters that have piercings in every part of their face and body). I was stunned to see this oogly marble coffee table for sale. I snatched it up, took it apart and switched out the existing top with this marble one.

Larger area to eat and perfect shade of Carrera Marble.
(Insert happy dance!)
