My Colortopia.

In our last home, every wall had color or pattern.
However, all the colors in our current home remodel are shaping up to be pretty neutral.
I've been toying with the idea of adding a pop of color to our front door.

The ocean is my idea of paradise and I've always been inspired by its soothing colors.
But how do I go about pulling a color out when there are so many different shades of blue and green?
Glidden Paint has come up with the coolest online tool to help.
They've rolled out a new site called My Colortopia which has a wealth of design advice and tips.
They also have a tool which will give you paint suggestions based off your favorite photo.
Let me illustrate...
I found this inspiration photo online of the beach that really speaks to me.  The colors are perfect.

Image via.
I uploaded it to My Colortopia.
You hover over the area you like best, click "Show Colors" and up pops
color shade suggestions that  best match the colors from your picture
(Deep Forest Pine, Teal Lake, Bermuda Bay, Peacock Blue, Carribean Sea).
GENIUS!

Since finding out about this tool I've been pulling some of my favorite inspirational photos
from Pinterest and playing with them on My Colortopia to find out what color shades they suggest.

Do you believe colors and lifestyle go together?
Take this poll and find out.

(I have been sponsored by Glidden brand paint to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own).

Free landscape rocks and fill dirt.

Want some rocks or dirt?
I'm sick of looking at them.
Please come take them off my hands.
Make yourself a pretty river rock bed or a big mud wrestling pit.

My Sweetie has dreams of building a rock wall but we've got enough work inside that those rocks will be sitting there for years.

  It's all yours people!

Weekly House Update.

Some very exciting installations happened at the house this week.
Most exciting - COUNTERS WENT IN and they are GORGEOUS!
While there were serious problems going on in the world I was staying up at night fretting about what counters to put in. As you may remember these were my options.
1st choice: Some kind of white marble.
2nd choice: White Quartzite.
3rd choice: Granite.
Last (and most practical at this point) choice: Formica.

Drum roll......

Statuary Grey Veined Marble from Italia Granite and fabricated by MGS.
For the island we went with a black Soapstone.
I'm in love.
(Just a sneak peak until all the cabinets drawers are in and the dust if off the floor).

After I blogged about the wrestle of a decision I was having,
a reader, Mariah, left a comment that helped seal my decision.

"We're soul sisters, you and I. We are both mommies to three little boys. We both like pretty things. We are both fiercely attractive with great hair. (right? say it's true. come on.) Sometimes a busy REAL life and pretty prettys are at odds... yup. So here is our big decision. Do we want to be the kind of people who lives safe? Who settle for the safe options in life because they don't stain? Or... Do we get what we want and live following our hearts, recognizing that it isn't always the safest option? Yes. I am waxing seriously philosophical about counters. It's that kind of day. hmmm... whatever will we do??"

Mariah, you had me "great hair"! Thanks for the help and a good laugh.
I just love a good and thoughtful comment!

Here are some other fun things that went in.
Sconce from School House Electric.

Pendants from Home Depot.

Two weeks left, fingers crossed!

Novica review.

I'm not sure a self-photo-portrait was quite what Novica had in mind when they asked me to review some of their items.  (I attempted to have my 7 year old take a decent picture of me but all I got were photos of my forehead).

I'm wearing the Wood Bangle Bracelet (here)
and Mahogany Melody Blouse (here).
You may remember I've talked about Novica in the past.  I just love their line of products but more importantly I love that when you make a purchase you are aiding artisans around the world make an income for themselves.  Their site offers clothing, jewelry, accessories, home decor, international instruments, paintings, handbags, etc.  Here are a few of my favorites...

I swear I saw this Alpaca throw blanket on the Nate Berkus Show recently.
