Treasure hunting.

Since moving in to our new/old house we've found that about 10% of our furniture actually fits.
So as I slowly sell those pieces I'm looking to replace them.
I've been out and about searching for some new end tables and a large area rug.
Here are some other things that side tracked me:
Overstock has an outlet that sells slightly damaged pieces
(although I hunted and couldn't find a mark on most anything).
(8900 S. 1300 E. in Sandy).
Everything is 50% off the price listed on the tag.
50% off $182.00 is $91.00 (for two chairs) which is $45.50 per chair.  Not bad.

Then I ran in to these cute little tables which I'm contemplating for my guest room.
The price was certainly right.  $42. with 50% off is $21.00 (for two tables) which means $10.50 per table!
 Then on to HomeGoods.
I found several occasional tables I could have gone home with.

This chest of drawers was all busted up but I love the nail head detail.
I would have omitted the nail head from the drawer faces...feels a bit too busy.
I feel a diy project coming on!

(BTW, several of you have asked if I would ship my furniture.  I'm not ignoring you.  Honestly, trying to go figure out shipping costs feels like a big chore.  Anyone who has an Etsy store have any good tips for calculating, shipping, insuring pieces)?

Quite a scare.

Yesterday my 4 year old woke up with excruciating pain in his leg and hip.
It was painful enough that he couldn't even bend his leg to sit up.
On the way out door I kept my distance so not to add to the hysteria.
We couldn't figure it out since he had been bouncing around right before he went to bed the night before.

At the hospital we learned nothing was broken but quite a bit of fluid had accumulated in his hip causing the pain called Transient Synovitis.  Apparently it's quite common with 3% of kids having an episode between the ages of 3-6 yrs old.  The cause is unknown.
They put him under then took a gigantic needle that drained the fluid from his hip.
An overnight stay at the hospital, video games, slushies, Spider Man cartoons..."this hospital is not so bad."
24 hours later my little man is back home.  He's walking like a grandpa but on the road to recovery.
You're never so grateful for your children's health and good hospitals until you have a health scare.

Evolution of a fireplace.

It's been a long haul to update our fireplace.
Originally it was one of the features that we were going to leave "as-is" but then you get in to a remodel you get foolish and start to say things like, "Since we're already at this stage, we might as well..."
Curse those dangerous, budget-busting words.

Here it was to begin with in all it's 1970's glory.
We almost left it as it made the best rock climbing wall for kids.
Some serious demo took place.

We decided on a gas fireplace insert.
We ended up opting for one with a little more pyrotechnics so this one went back.
We also decided to eliminate the first row of cinder block so that the fireplace with sit flush with the floor.
Then came the marble from Italia Granite and fabricated by MGS By Design which makes the whole thing!
Time for a mantle.
I wanted something with clean lines, simple and modern.

The carpenter taught my 4 year what scribing meant.
Thank you.
Time for primer and paint.  I used Frog Tape to tape off all the places I didn't want paint.  This time I opted for Frog Tape Delicate (yellow) which is great because it won't peel off the paint where you tape it.
 After:

Utah ain't so bad when you have one of these to cozy up to.

More stuff for sale.

As we unpack more and more boxes this week I am finding I just don't have room for all the stuff that used to be in our AZ house.  So here's just a sampling of more stuff I'm selling.

I've had several people ask if I would ship things.
At this time I'm going to give first priority to locals and if it doesn't sell I'll gladly ship.

Framed Cork board $50.00
Ruffled shower curtain from Urban Outfitters (here), currently sells for $79.00.
Your price tomorrow: $25.00
Tall yellow lamp and red lamp: $20.00 each.
Vintage Redwing Stoneware jug: $50.00 (in this pic it looks like it's a lamp but it's just a lamp behind it).
Wish I had a better pic of this but the Mr. put it in the garage this week and this was the best shot I could manage.  I was surprised to see how much these go for on Etsy and Ebay.  Upwards of $800.00
Tomorrow: $175.

I'll be selling some vintage frames (as seen above)...ranging from $15-25.

Did I mention I have TONS of baby stuff?
Car seats, bouncers, toys, clothes, a rocker / glider chair.
Email for my address at:
smhinckley (at) yahoo (dot) com.

***I've had several people ask if I would reserve things for them.  Unfortunately, I'm not that organized to run the day tomorrow and keep track of all the reserves.  I so wish I could be more accommodating. It will be first come first serve.***

Yard Sale!

Everyone ought to move every now and then to take inventory of all the STUFF they've accumulated and get rid of it.  Our remodeled house has more sq footage than our last house but less liveable sq footage.
Make sense?
Since the basement is unfinished there is less space to furnish.
Why not just store it in the basement?
My thinking exactly!
Husband: Absolutely not!
Yard sale time.
Before I haul everything to driveway and let people offer me $2.00 for something with a $50.00 price tag I thought I'd let you take a sneak peak .
See something you like...
shoot me an email for my address and come buy my junk stuff Saturday morning at 8am (Sandy, UT).
