Time for a post.

Our grout is done thanks to a little professional help.
I would have run the cabinets the entire length of the wall but then there was the sliding glass door to contend with which didn't make that possible.
So instead, I installed the tiles floor to ceiling in that little breather space.

This room needed a clock and this was the perfect place for one.

I've always been slightly obsessed with vintage school found objects not to exclude clocks.
There are a ton on Ebay for good prices but they are all hard wired with cords sticking out the back.

Then I found this 1960's reproduction on School House Electric.
Love it, but at $235. it's much than I want to spend on a clock.

Then, while strolling through IKEA I found this one for $19.99.
Leave it to IKEA, right?!

I used this fantastic 3M hook that sticks directly to the wall.
No fuss, no muss, no damage, no mess.

When you're done with it you simply pull the tab and off it comes without any residue (so they claim).

I was skeptical it would hold but it has for the past week.

Update on Cali:
This evening Cali was having a hard time breathing so she was rushed back to the hospital.
They found a blood clot in her neck.
Please keep her in your prayers.

The long and the short of it.

A little boy with long hair is adorable in my book.

Long hair on a 14 month baby who screams at the sight of a comb and sweats profusely in the heat is not a functional summer-time do.  I keep telling him beauty isn't pain free...he just stares at me and drools.

So...

First haircut.
We'll try the long locks again in the fall.

Cherry pie.

In case you were wondering, I finally mustered up the courage to ask my neighbor if I could pick some cherries from her tree that hung over our fence (after I had already picked everything I could reach).  She told me to help myself.  She even said they rarely get around to picking them at all.
WHAT?!
I thought I might be pushing my luck if I asked if I could hop the fence and pick on her side too.

Father's Day rolled around and I decided to surprise my father, father-in-law and husband with a homemade cherry pie.

I realize it's never a good idea to try out a recipe for the first time on a special occasion which is why I bought a Marie Callender apple pie to hide as backup.

It really wasn't as difficult as thought it would be.

I was envisioning a blue ribbon pie in the making.

They turned out ok.
No one went for seconds.
OK, the Marie Callender pie was a hit.

So much for channeling my inner-Martha.

Mid-century bench makeover.

Yesterday I showed off my DIY wall shelf.

Love the mirror, love the shelf but it felt a bit top heavy and bare.

I found these mid century benches on Craigslist in Tucson a while back.
They turned out to be the perfect scale as a seat to put shoes on.

Problem was they were in rough condition.
The wood was scratched and broken.
I envisioned replacing them with marble but I couldn't find any tile that would fit.

I contacted Stephanie from MGS By Design (favorite stone fabricator) and they cut some Carrera Marble to fit perfectly.

Come on in.
Have a "moment".
Take a load off.

Update:
Cali is making great progress in her recovery.
It's not been without several physical and emotional hurdles but she's a fighter.
A fundraiser has been organized to help with the medical expenses this Saturday.
There are also other donation options if you're interested.
Go here for further details.
We can't thank you enough for all your support!

DIY wall shelf.

Our entryway is much smaller in our current home compared to our Arizona entry.
Although small, it still needed a "moment" (got that from Nate Berkus.
I'm guessing the definition means something like a pause to look at something intentionally styled).

The entry is large enough that it would fit a narrow table but it would be tight and claustrophobic.
Instead I opted for an ever so petite wall shelf for mail, phone, hang purse and keys, etc.
I found the perfect option on Etsy.
When I asked it they would cut it a bit smaller they said they weren't taking custom orders so I decided to DIY it, or rather DIM (do it myself).
Fine because the price was around $85. including shipping but I paid about $20. to DIM.

I picked up some corner brackets and one board of pine (measures 3/4 x 3 1/2) from Home Depot.

I had them cut my board to measure two 30 inch boards.

I attached three corner brackets to one of the boards then applied a bead of glue the length of the edge.

Next I stuck the other board to the top and screwed in the rest of the screws to the corner brackets.

One coat of primer then one coat of grey paint.
(Sorry, "gray" paint...I got a scolding last week from an anonymous commenter who gave me spelling lesson on the correct way to spell grey/gray.  After feeling pain from a bruised ego I found out they're both right.  See here.
And yes Anonymous, I'm English ...somewhere in my lineage).

I then decided to give it some distressing.
I don't normally do faux-aging on my projects but for some reason I was in the mood for it.

A little sanding here and there gave it just a hint of age.
Lastly, it got a coat of varnish.

Up on the wall it went.

Mirror is the Grundtal from IKEA.
Little milk jug is from Shop Sweet Lulu. I've also used it here previously.

(Had to check out the NBA Playoffs).

Tomorrow I'll share another addition to this "moment".
