Sweet treats!

Holy cow it's the end of the month!? Time to whip up some sweets for my very patient visiting teaching sistahs.

Tucson cold front.

We had a cold front come through and got all the way down to 87 degrees! A day like that called for sweaters and a steamy hot bowl of homemade chilli. (The boys took their shirts off and ran through the sprinklers afterwards). We're expected to get back up to 95 degrees the end of the week and we'll get the popcicles back out.

Bad to the bone biker!

Last week Tani asked me when he could take the training wheels off his bike. I was shocked to be quite honest, because Tani has always been rather reserved and it usually takes some coaxing to get him to do something out of his comfort zone (I'm really the same way). I was off school last week for Fall break and so I took off his training wheels and presto! Within three days he was cruising! We go to the park every day so he can practice and he is starting to love it. The whole process got me thinking...In what areas of my life am I still unnecessarily using training wheels? Just don't forget the helmet and other protective gear!

Mission Failed.

Things were looking up last night at 10pm when I was peeling tape soon after we applied the black coat. It was tedious so we decided to call it a night and hit it again tomorrow. BIG MISTAKE! THEN...
This morning...this happened.
Operation den makeover is officially a BUST! Paint peeled all the way down to the drywall. I have no clue what to do next exept write to Oprah and ask her to send her cutie pie, Nate Burkus. Back to the drawing board.

The jury is still out.

I finished the taping today. Time to continue with my vision of faux-wallpaper. Crack open that black paint and let's get to work!
EEWWWW! Wait a minute...UMMM? WHOA! I'm not so sure about this. This isn't quite working the way I anticipated.
This could go two ways: Dramatic-chic or Halloween scary. I hope I didn't make a mistake. Stay tuned.

Operation Den Makeover is Underway!

We're at it again...another crazy paint job that not even I can believe we're doing! These first two pictures are my inspiration. I took these pictures at a Pardee Model Home in Vegas last weekend. I saw this headboard and fell in love. So much so that I turned to Jake and I said, "Let's paint an entire den wall with this pattern." Oh if you could be a fly on the wall when I suggested that!

Day 1: Paint the makeover wall Ultra Pure White.
Day 2: Bang head against white wall trying to figure out the measurements and calculations. (If you really want to test your marriage try this out)!
Day 3: Begin taping all the while questioning your sanity in attempting something so laborious.
Break time! P.S. Do you like my new hair do?
Here's Matani pretending to be in jail.Day 4: Tape some more.
(Despite Jake looking like the star in this picture I will tell you that I had no help with the taping. Yep, that's right I taped every single mile of tape BY MYSELF! Jake really was very supportive though. He helped me figure out the measurements and pointed out where I was uneven with my lines. Thanks Babe!)
By my calcuations Operation Den Wall Makeover should be done on Tuesday at 11:30pm. Check back for the big reveal!

Vegas Baby, Vegas!

We decided Friday afternoon to bust this joint and load up the boys for a weekend trip to Vegas to visit Gramma Sai and Grampa Jay.

Vegas had a cold front come through and it was C-O-L-D! (OK it was probably in the 70's but for us Tucsonans that is COLD!) So we stayed inside and played the Wii much too long. Who knew that video game golf could actually make your arms sore?!

I was able to get out and look at model homes which I love to do. I thought this baby nursery was so cute! I would have never thought that orange, pink and brown would be adorable. I will admit I was little envious to have a baby girl for a brief minute (that envy has passed).

We visited the Bellagio to watch the spectacular water show. We waited and waited and waited in the 70 degree cold.

SUPER COOL! The wind was blowing so hard that we were practically soaked by the time it was over.
We checked out M&M World on the Strip which was nothing but a tourist trap to get you to buy all kinds of M&M garb. I highly DO NOT recommend going there. I like M&M's but not enough to sport a M&M t-shirt, key chain and mug. Where were the M&M samples that we thought we were going to get to gorge on? Turns out you have to pay something like $12.00/lb for the highly coveted candy. So we went to the gas station a block away and bought Tani a $.50 bag of M&M's. This twighlight tunnel was the only cool thing there but it had twisted, weirdo music that scared both boys to death.

On Monday, Jake took the boys to Circus, Circus and my mom and I had a girls day complete with new do's, Pedi's and Mani's, shopping and lunch. (Thanks for a fab day mom!) Here's some of my mop on the floor. I didn't even cry. I'll post pictures when I've perfected the candid personal portrait shot.

Halloween is gonna suck this year!

Happy Birthday Jake!

If I could give you the perfect birthday present I would:
1. Accompany you to Home Depot and let you pick out the grill YOU wanted instead of the grill I wanted.

OR, BETTER YET...
2. I would arrange for you to take the day off from work and allow you to watch war movies all day long. I would bring a big steak burrito from Nicco's and a Banana Cream pie from Marie Calendar's. Then I would suprise you with a card that said you were officially off the hook from having to help me with "Operation Den-Makeover" next week.

OR, BETTER YET...
3. We would take a trip to Vegas and you could round up your friends, like Kurt Hanson (who if he wasn't a guy you'd probably be married to), and you guys could go camping at Cathedral Gorge and reminisce about your high school days playing football. Then later that evening you and I would go eat at the Bellagio and I would peel all the shrimp and crack all the crab legs you could eat. I might even give you your first foot massage ever (I hope you don't mind if I wear medical gloves).

OR, BETTER YET...

4. I would suprise you with plane tickets to Oregon and we would drive to the Hood River "The Gorge" and do some world class windsurfing all day until our arms felt like jello. Then we would have a romantic dinner by the river and I would even let you have a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's Heath Bar Crunch to yourself without asking for as much as a taste.
Since I didn't think of any these ideas early enough you're going to have to settle for a homemade birthday party with the three of us who love you most. Happy Birthday Love! (P.S. I'm still going to need your help with "Operation Den-Makeover next week").

My Saturday Project.

This last Saturday I got ambitious and pulled out my sewing machine from off the top shelf.
My goal was to try and hide this eye sore with a little fabric.
Much better!
When, may I ask, did fabric become so ridiculously expensive? After threading my needle for the eleventh time I looked up to this...my littlest guy sound asleep. I guess General Conference and the hum of a sewing machine will send little ones right to la-la land.

I'm totally inspired by Amy Atlas' gorgeous desert and treat tables! Check out her website http://www.amyatlas.com/. (Images taken from her website).
