DIY PVC Sprinkler.

Last Saturday the men were bored.
So we attempted a DIY project I had pinned on Pinterest.

The end goal was a DIY sprinkler made out of pvc pipe.
(Instructions from Printables found here).

 It was surprisingly easy.
In fact, this little man did a good majority of the construction (with a little adult supervision).

Larry from Home Depot was sweet enough to pull everything from the shelf while I read him my list of needed supplies.

Perfect way to beat the summer heat.

Then we moved to the front yard and made ourselves our own little car bike wash.

And the neighborhood kids came in droves.

Points were given for best trick...

and best style.

 It was a hit.

Then the party wound down and the littlest man finally got the courage to take his turn.

So tell me, have you tried out any Pinterest projects?
Failure or success?

Medicine cabinet turned boy's treasure box.

I found this cool metal medicine cabinet at one my favorite stops the Old Flamingo the other day.

I'd like to think it was vintage but it was in suprisingly good condition besides a few dents and scratches.
I envisioned a medical red cross on the front so I taped it all up with my favorite painters tape,
 Frog Tape...

 and spray painted it red.

I love the result!

I hung it the bathroom but the Mr. veto'd that idea.
So instead it's found a new home in my boys bedroom.

They have been using it as a display box for all their knick-knack treasures.

I've always loved  using things for their un-intended purpose.

I recently came accross this medical box from Land of Nod which is equally as fun.

Pillow fight!

I just received some new pillow covers from Skoope Home and couldn't be more thrilled!  I seem to have acquired quite a collection of pillows over the years that I paired them with.  Skoope pillow is on the far right with the Ikat design.  Choosing was muy difficult.  She has tons of great patterns to choose from.
(Black pillow with monogram is from Stitches by LouAnn).

I had her do the reverse side of the ikat pillow with the gray chevron fabric.
I also ordered the pink ikat cover.  To my surprise my boys thought the pink ikat was "super cool".  They'd be careful...they might come home to pink bedspreads one day.  The gray striped pillow is from Joss and Main.  I'm kicking myself that I didn't order a couple more.  Someone please email me if they spot any come up for sale on any other site? (Throw is from HomeGoods).

To all you who keep wondering when I'm going to post pictures of our new home remodel...they're on their way.  My girlfriend, Michelle of Wondertime Photography is coming to visit tomorrow and she's bringing her camera!

Gentleman's Tea Party.

Last weekend our patio looked like this.
Seems to have become the dumping ground for left over building materials from our home remodel.

It all had to go because this patio was the venue site for a very important soiree.
We received a set of some groovy teal dishes from Target with an invitation to participate in Target's "Big Honkin' Summer Competition."  The run down goes like this..."use your creativity to show readers how they can create the perfect summer day by styling and decorating a scene with the summer products."  Most creative post will be featured on A Bullseye View, Target’s online magazine.
Cool.

So all our junk got moved to the basement and the patio got a facelift.

Time to throw a Gentleman's Tea Party.
Who said tea parties were just for girls?

This was no ordinary Tea Party.
It came complete with a dress codelinen napkins and NO girls allowed.

There wasn't any tea but the lemonade did have a really fizzy kick.

Target's Teal Striped Tumblers were decked out with lemon slices and a lollipop.

These boys had never been introduced to the concept of formal assigned seating designated by simple cardboard letter stencils found at the hardware store.

Teal Striped Dinner Plates added the perfect jumping off for the party's color scheme.

Served in Target's striped bowl & teal dipping bowl, the shrimp cocktail was received with mixed reviews.
Half the boys cheered and half the boys winced

An old a/v stand scored at a school auction was the perfect food and beverage cart
AND it was the perfect color.

On the menu was sandwiches with NO crusts

veggie sticks with dressing served in tall shot glasses
(which I ended up eating all of except for one...good boy, Bryson),

sweets, sweets and more sweets,

and blue koolaid served in Target's Teal Stripes Beverage Dispenser
I thought the stuff tasted like medicine but the boys loved it...go figure?

Lemon drops were served in tea light candle holders and covered with a glass cheese cover.

To disguise the brick wall, butcher paper was stapled to the ceiling trim
(found at a party store for $0.57 / 3 yards).

Yes, these boys feasted,

and giggled like little school girls,

and licked every last finger (so un-gentlemanly like).

Stories were told of worms and belching and skateboard tricks...

And they even went back for seconds.

These 4 Men had a jolly good time and are already talking about next year's Gentleman's Tea Party.
