Art made from wood floor boards.

I've been promising pictures of my bedroom makeover for weeks now. I'm waiting on a couple of final touches to arrive in the mail that I'm hoping will give the room some BAM(!) before I reveal everything. I am however, going to give you a little sneak peak on one of the wall hanging projects we did.

I have a new/old dresser in my newly made-over bedroom. Above it was one big blank wall that needed something. If I had my druthers I would have a big, architectural mirror or an original piece of art. Since neither one of those things were in the budget I had to put my thinking cap on.

I saw this piece of art on Pottery Barn's website (which seems to no longer be for sale). Hmmm...Could I do something like that? Let's see.

For the past 1 1/2 years these left over hardwood floor boards have lived under our bed.

We dusted them off and glued them together.

I was inspired by these two pictures of Joshua trees.


I bought some self-adhesive shelf liner from Walmart for under $5.00 and covered the glued together boards with it. (By the way, the total cost for this project ended up costing under $5.00 because everything used was stuff laying around the house. I only had to buy the shelf liner paper...score!)

I then copied my selected picture on to a transparency and shot it on my boards.

With the help of a Sharpie marker I traced the image on to the shelf liner paper stuck on my boards.

Those most time consuming part was taking an Exacto knife to the shelf liner paper to cut out the image. I then removed the negative space away from the image.

Next, primed and painted over the entire thing.

While the paint was still tacky, I pulled off all the shelf liner paper.

Here is the end result. My Joshua Tree. I love it. It looks much better at it's new home on the wall.

Final reveal of it above my dresser next week.
