Nesting: (verb) Feeling the need to prepare for the arrival of the baby by cleaning, organizing, etc.

And when exactly is that instinct supposed to kick in?

Oh I so love it. Thanks for keeping it real. I had marveled at your design aesthetic and wondered how you managed to keep that uncluttered look with young children...'cause I raised three sons and one daughter and my house...well my house look far worse than yours most days (and was never decorated with such flair and good taste!)

You made my day! I think my house is in the same state as yours, and I have no nesting going on. Good luck on your new arrival. Going from 1 to 2 was hard for me, but having the third was easier. What's another kid. Then I had a
4th, and it all fell apart! How all goes well and you have a happy healthy baby!!

I thought I was the only one struggling to keep an organized home with two little ones!! Makes me feel great to know that even the prettiest of homes go unorganized at times. Thanks Michelle!

Is that the classic NES Nintendo system I see sitting on the floor? Because that's even more awesome than the rest of the clutter! --Which makes me feel better about my pig sty which you can see here...

Great blog!

I love this post. Just yesterday a friend was asking me how I kept everything so organized with a baby in the house. I guess I gave off that impression because I write a blog. Funny, since my house is in the same state of caos! Toys and muddy dog prints everywhere.

When you posted about the striped hallway last week I thought it was from a design catologue. I realized from this post it's actually your home. That's amazing! I am def going to keep following.

i don't even have kids, but this post definitely made me feel better. i'm certainly not nesting, but am funking. my definition of funking is just being plain lazy for no excuse while my house sits in shambles all around me.
so, i second "the mom"'s comment...thanks for keeping it real! :-)

I don't know, but I wish mine would kick in too! I never got it with the first pregnancy and now with 90 days to go I'd love to get a real long bout of it this time :)

When are you going to post pics of the new nursery? Or is Baby Boy #3 got a spot in the Big Boys' room?

I love it! This happens to my house and it's just me and my hubby. Good luck and you have the perfect excuse to ask for help.

Its the same with moms all over the world. No matter how I try I can't catch up with the mess my two make. Its 12:00am and I am still picking up the toys and clothes. Your post really made me feel better though as most everyone noticed your house has oodles more style! Wishing you all the best for your new arrival.

Don't worry, my house looks far messier and I don't even have any kids!

I love this! It's such a struggle to keep things "perfect" all the time and I love that you are keeping it real by showing the normal side of life!

I'm 32 wks and I'd say mine kicked in at about 28 weeks. I keep feeling this HUGE pressure to get everything settled before he arrives and/or I get too big to really get these projects done!

I'm feeling the same! Due in 4 weeks now and wondering when I will get my 2nd trimester boost of energy and when nesting will start!

I feel so much better about myself now that I know that your house is not perpetually clean and perfect. Whew. Thank goodness. I was beginning to think something was wrong with me. Thanks for that!

Hi there, I nominated you for a Stylish Blogger Award. You were instrumental in me starting my blog that I knew I had to pick you. I don't know if you will have the energy to do this, but at least you can take a break from nesting or not nesting for that matter :)
