Treasure Hunting.

Saturday morning, 9:18am we set our GPS to lead us in to the unknown with hopes of finding something "really cool".

Somewhere in this Arizona desert lay three hidden treasures, aka Geocaches, that we were bound and determined to find.

Not familiar with Geocaching? I wasn't either until last Christmas.

"Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online." -(Geocahing website).

So due north we went in to nature's playground.

A few moments later our GPS told us we were within 5 feet of the Cache.
We hunted high and low then spotted a little canister in the tree.

Along with a log book the instructions inside told us to take the coin (from Canada) and leave another international coin of equal or greater value.

After we exalted in our find as we set off to find the next Cache.

I spotted it first.

This one was bigger.

And it was loaded with instructions, a log book and loot perfect for little boys.

Again, take a treasure, leave some treasure.

This cache was started in 2007!

After we checked the Geocaching website we discovered that these Caches are hidden EVERYWHERE!
We're hooked!
The perfect aventure for these men and their pregnant mamma!

That is so cool; we went geocaching a couple of years ago and it is fun (thrill of the hunt).

That is so fun!! I had a date with a guy who was in love with that! So much that he took a detour on the way to dinner to check one out...I was kinda turned off by it, but the idea is super cool. haha

What a fun family adventure! My sister did this with my dad a few years ago and I don't think they had as much fun as it sounds like you had! :)

My in-laws have been doing this with my kiddos for a while. They travel a lot and anytime they do, they always set out to find at least 1 cache. It's so fun!

I love this. Is it sad that I knew about it from a Law & Order:SVU episode?
I must do this with my boys, I think they would love it.

My husband was telling me about geocaching last year, it sounds like a blast. We love to go hiking so I am sure it is right up our alley. What a great way to spend a family day.

I've been wanting to do this! Good friends in CO are totally hooked and another friend in Boston takes her boys all the time in the hills of New England...

I've got a drawer of cheap toys from Peter Piper and a box of coins from our travels abroad if you're ever needing some loot to leave...

My nephew and his family are into geocaching and took my boys out one day when they were here visiting. They had a blast. Looks like you had fun too.

Geocaching is pretty big here in Arkansas. I've written about it before (for work, I write advertising) but I've never gotten out and done it myself. It does sound pretty cool for kids!

We looove geocaching! When Ian and I first met, we used to go all the time. We've slowed down a bit, but we still love to take our GPS along when we go hiking...just in case. We also love to plan a route of geocaches when we visit new places. It gives you a chance to see lesser-known places. I think I've logged about 200. Ian, AKA Rockshelter, is up to about 480! He had no problem rattling that number off when I asked him. Proud geocacher. Now you have us itching for spring!

I love geocaching! I have an app for my blackberry and my guy has an app on his iPhone. We're so crazy about it that we get email updates about new caches and have been known to head out at 10pm to be the first to find one in our neighborhood!
