Sneak Peak...

My bedroom makeover is coming along nicely. I thought I'd give you a sneak peak of a snipet of the room (or rather an element of the room...or rather just my chair styling).

18 months ago I found this wing chair in a thrift store. It was upholstered in blue fabric and very dirty. I bought it for a song with the intention of having it re-upholstered. After the fact I learned how much re-upholstery cost. Ouch! That's was I get for being over-eager. Live and learn. Anyhow, I went ahead and had it re-upholstered in white vinyl and now it's one of my favorite chairs. Unfortunately I have no "before" pictures...this was back before I was in to blogging.

For the past 18 months the chair has sat in what we call the circle room (a room that is a complete circle and functions as who knows what? It really is a glorified hallway that feeds the entryway in to the kitchen and family room. (We have discovered if you stand in the middle of the room and speak the acoustics are crazy!) Since we don't quite know what the room is or how it functions we stuck the chair there and it always look lonely and out of place.

It now has a new home in my bedroom. It fits in perfectly and is not lonely anymore!

The room is about a 1-2 weeks away from the big reveal. I've been scouring thrift stores, Craigslist, a few garage sales in search for the perfect dresser (with the perfect price tag). Something antique looking. Something to balance and contrast the very modern bed that arrived last Friday.
I've also been searching high and low for a table similar to this Pottery Barn Recycled Aluminum Side Table:

Unfortunately it's no longer available. Unfortunately, even if it was I wasn't about to spend $250.+ for it. I read a tip that a knock off was available at Pier 1...there were even pictures. I visited 2 Pier 1's and called 3 others on the east and west coast. No one had even heard of it. Come on Ebay'ers, anyone interested in putting their's up for sale?

Picture Wall.

My den is half way done. The other side of the room is perfect. This side is empty. I bought a zillion (20 to be exact) frames a year ago at Aaron Brother's penny sale (buy one frame get another for a penny...[they run that sale in January and July]).
I borrowed my neighbor's laser level and went to work.

I cut out paper the exact size as the frames to play with the placement of them on the wall.

Then I nailed away. My hubby cringed everytime I pounded another hole in the wall. (He just doesn't know good design).

Then I hung away. You can see I don't have any real pictures yet in the frames...that will be next.

This is my dream sofa that will go under all those pictures. It is from Red in Fred. Way out of my price range at this point in my life but a girl can always dream, right?

Boys' room makeover.

I posted a couple months ago about my efforts to makover the boys' room. I'm finished. Both our boys have names that have to do with the wind and water so I picked pieces that had a nautical / ocean theme. Thanks again Tim for cutting these shelves down! Can't forget a place for the bouncy ball collection.
Found these rocks on the beach in San Diego.

I was trying to make these numbers look like the numbers printed on a big spinaker sail. 4 represents the the year my oldest was born. 7 the year my youngest was born.

This burlap potato sack has nothing to do with the water. It's the other side of the burlap I cut up and used for that fancy frame project I did. It had the right colors that coordinated with the rest of the room so I covered it with an old bulletin board.

I found this book/magazine shelf for $12.00 at an estate sale a few months ago and it was already fire engine red.

Can't forget about my DIY headboards!

My boys picked out things that were full of bright, bold color...something that I'm not very comfortable decorating with. But it's their space so bring on the color. The room is small but has a really nice feel. We're all happy!

One lump or two?

This weekend I attended the most lovely and sophisticated baby shower I've ever been to.
A real live afternoon tea party (no I didn't have any...I knew you were wondering). There were no GUESS-THE-MELTED-CANDY BAR-IN-THE-DIAPER type games at this soiree.
Ladies came dressed in their lovliest attire. Pinky fingers pointed north as the Ladies sipped from their tea cups and conversed. There were three tiered stands of cucumber finger sandwiches, mini lemmon cakes, and crumpets as far as the eye could see. My diet went out the window the minute I stepped foot in my neighbor's decked out home. We all received the prettiest take-home/thank you gift...

A bird feeder!
(Lindsay, you really are the hostess with the mostess!)
